Update on activities from Dr Thomlinson School, Rothbury:

Year 7 Archaeological Day
Year 7 recently spent a day learning about the work of an Archaeologist as part of their History Syllabus. Pupils undertook their own indoor digs to discover many hidden treasures. A great deal of care was shown to correctly uncover, clean, label, store and identify their finds.
Thanks to the PTA for helping with the funding for this exciting day.

Latest Style Updates
A few more changes have taken place over the last few months as part of our ongoing plan to keep our school looking good:

  • The Dining Hall was cleared, repainted and the floor again polished beautifully.

  • The front steps were removed to create a smooth approach for everyone.

  • PTA installed a traversing wall for the pupils in the outdoor Green Gym. Other additions due shortly.

  • The Crow's Lookout Post has been cleared, re-plastered, re-painted and re-carpeted to create a new cloakroom area.

FREE bus transport for older students is set to leave Northumberland County Council with a £500,000 bill. But councillors last night hailed the scheme to provide passes for A-level and college students as a massive success - and said it was likely to cost much less than feared.

The free pass has seen the number of teenagers using buses more than double, from 800 in July to 1,850 now. The county council took the decision to scrap fares after they rose to £360 a year under the previous Labour administration.

A TINY rural Northumberland community could end up completely surrounded by wind farms.

The hamlet of Wingates, near Rothbury, is faced with five schemes which are either at scoping or pre-application stage, all within 5km of the houses.

The 22-home community, which was an estate village up until the 1960s, fears the proposals would ruin the uninterrupted views of open countryside, which include Simonside hill and Northumberland National Park.
